Sylvan Star Cheese is a family-owned business, making high quality gouda with milk from the family dairy farm. John Schalkwyk was a cheese maker in Holland for 30 years before immigrating with his family to Alberta in 1995. With his son, Jeroen, minding the family’s herd of Holstein’s, John continued his career as an expert cheese maker, crafting gouda using the same techniques his mother used before him. Their cheese is made the traditional way, using thermalized milk, cultures, and rennet—with no additional additives.
Pie Cloud is a group of folks obsessed with baking the best pies possible. Maureen DePatie, the owner (or pro-Pie-etor of Pie Cloud) is a lifelong baker. She started Pie Cloud six years ago with her two adult children and has been serving up sweet, savoury, and sublime pies ever since. Everything is made from scratch with the best ingredients possible, be it pie crust, creamy custard, or fresh fruit filling.
Phil & Sebastian made their start at the Market way back in Currie Barracks. Now they’re back and they’re bringing donuts. They strive to be that local coffee shop that just does things right. They’re different.
