CABIN COMFORTS: FEATURING ARTIST LEETIA LYONS
As Calgary Farmers’ Market embraces the rhythm of nature, we are delighted to welcome you to our winter season, Cabin Comforts. This theme reflects how winter shapes the way we gather, cook, and connect, sharing local food, spending time together, and embracing the cozy comforts of the season.
It’s the feeling of browsing for ingredients for a slow-cooked stew, grabbing a warm meal with a friend at the market, shopping for what you need to host the people you love. The market becomes a gathering place where you can slow down, talk to your vendors and find what you need for those comfort meals that get us through the cold.
In partnership with Burnt Toast Studio, we’re connecting with Calgary’s creative community to bring the feeling of each season to life. Through this collaboration, local artists will create artwork that captures what each season means at the market, visually telling the story as it unfolds throughout the year.
For Cabin Comforts, we’re pleased to introduce local artist Leetia Lyons. Leetia created artwork that captures the warmth and connection of winter at the market, and she’s the first artist in this ongoing collaboration.
When we asked Leetia what inspired her piece for this season and how she hopes visitors feel when they experience it at Calgary Farmers’ Market, she shared, “I think the biggest thing that inspired the piece was my own relationship with winter and learning to embrace it as an opportunity to slow down and enjoy what the season brings: cozy nights in, comforting food, and much needed rest with the people I love. I hope visitors to Calgary Farmers’ Market can embrace the season as well and lean into the comforts of winter while it’s here.”
Leechuts (Leetia Lyons, she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Calgary/Mohkinstsis, specializing in painting, illustration, drawing, and design. With a Bachelor of Design from Alberta University of the Arts, her work reflects an empathetic exploration of the human experience.
This is just the beginning. Throughout the year, a new artist will help tell the story of each season at the market, alongside the events and experiences we have planned. There’s a lot to come this year, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Follow along on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to stay connected as each season unfolds.
Always in season, always local.
